I'm a Migraine Suffer.

Hello Everyone - I hope you are all well and if not I wish you a speedy recovery.

This post is a personal one for me, I have wanted to write this in a long time. But didn't feel like the timing was right. But now I'm ready, to share my journey.

In my 20's I was diagnosed with migraines. I had to cut out most things like, Sugar, Chocolate, Coffee/tea, pasta and the list went on. Then little by little I started to reinduced the things I cut out of my diet. To see what my triggers are for these migraines.  Turns out none of the things I cut out was and still not my triggers. My triggers are not regular meals, or lack of food - so fasting can be an issue for me. Also not enough fluids, stress and lack of sleep also can triggers them, lastly the weather, storms and the summer.

I use to take paracetamol and then live in a dark room for up to a week and beyond. Then the doctor prescribed me Zomig. This drug only made things worse for me, I use to pass out. Then I was advised to stop taking the drug due to how I was having side effects.

I now take Sumatriptan has and when I get the first sign of an attack. I now know my warning signs and sometimes I don't get a warnings, the attack just hits - that's not fun.

One thing a migraine suffer needs is a dark room to recover from the attack, only trouble is my room hasn't been so dark. Over the years I've used different ways to block out the sun light from my bedroom, eye masks and my main one was springy pole and an old duvet or sheet up at my window to block out the light. The old sheet and a pole actually worked.

Then this year (2025) I noticed while looking up from outdoor in my garden. The venetian blind I have up at my window has gone wavey. I have tried to straighten the slats by pulling my blind all the way up and let mother nature heat them up and straighten out. My aunt suggested I use a hairdryer to heat them up, but I don't owned one. Then last week the slats started to break. So on my next payday I'm going to get an replacement blind, I really would like one that is purple or a bright pink, but that can be further in the future.  I also have blackout curtains to put up, when I find them. I'm sorting out the house for personal reasons.

I've been looking into ways to reduce UV and Anti - glare from the sun light. That when I remember two of my neighbours have privacy film on their downstairs windows.

So after some research I learnt how the privacy film helps with both the UV rays and the anti - glare from the sun light and can help with migraine suffers. I should say the privacy (part) only works during the day, at night you are advised to shut your curtains when you have your lights on. Which further down you will see I forgot.

Recently I bought some of the film from amazon and on the 22nd of May I installed the film. I was really happy and very proud of myself. Then night came and it hit me why the privacy  film is one way. I really freak out, that much so I nearly took the film off, I don't do well in enclosed spaces so I felt I was boxed in.

At the moment while I am working on this post the film is still on my window. The film definitely cuts the UV rays and heat from the sun, and during the day you can definitely see out. But for me I love to be able to see out at night also, I want to be able to see the stars or the full moon and I love watching the rain and on the very rare occasion snow. Lastly I have noticed the local birds keep trying to fly at my window, so I think at some point I will have to take the top piece off so the wildlife know not to try.

I will have to look into privacy for both day/night but be able to see through also, I'm told it exist, I hope so!

The first picture below is during me installing the film, you can see the top panel of my window has the film on and the bottom panel not. Next picture with my white bunny statue in you can see at night how the privacy film flips over to you cant see out but obviously anyone outdoors can see in. Then below that picture is from outdoor looking up to my room, you can see why some of the birds like to fly at my window. The last picture I love so much I can now watch the local birds and these two its a Awww, moment.

I'm unable to do a direct picture out of my window during the day due to the privacy of my neighbour over the back. I live in a back to back house with a little yard aka my garden.

I will do a follow up on what I will call the Window saga in the coming days.

Thank you for stopping by - Until next time
